Brief
Create and bring to market an attractive, user centred, electric water flosser. To compete against established market competitors the product needed:
Industry leading aesthetics.
A large water tank capacity.
Comfortable grip and ergonomics.
Antimicrobial plastic to reduce mould and smells.
USB-C charging.
Outcome
Conceived, developed, and brought the Hydro Sonic Water Flosser to mass production. Our final design included many market leading features conceived by the Nyker team. These features have gone on to separate this product from competition and garner industry praise.
More than 50,000 units were sold in year 1 and the Hydro Sonic was crowned “best cordless water flosser” by Electric Teeth, the industry leader expert in oral care reviews.

Generating “Simply Genius” Innovations to Rival the Competition.
We surpassed Ordo’s brief by adding innovative design features, which have become the central selling points for the Hydro Sonic. Features such as the integrated tip storage, “on-demand” button, and top facing LEDs have helped separate the product from established market competitors.
In March 2024, the well-renowned review platform Electric Teeth awarded the Hydro Sonic Water Flosser their best in category. We were proud to see the features Nyker added to the product specifically highlighted in the review - calling them “simply genius”
Observing User Behaviours to Drive Features
To ensure this water floss was as enjoyable to use as to look at, we spent time using existing products and listening to user experiences. We highlighted key areas of frustration or difficulty and focussed on simple and effective solutions to minimise these in our design.
This process led to features such as the “on-demand” button, having been told by many people that they sprayed their ceilings with water when using other products without this feature. We also carefully crafted the design to improve the grip, which helps provide users with greater control and comfort.
Collaborating with Manufacturers to Deliver Complex Multi-Faceted Designs
The Hydro Sonic Water Flosser required several manufacturing elements to work together, including mechanical, electrical and liquid elements. We effectively collaborated with Ordo’s existing manufacturers to instruct and redirect their developments to get the best outcomes at a reasonable cost and within tight deadlines.
We also sourced and managed additional suppliers to support the introduction of antimicrobial additives into the product.
Our detailed approach ensured reliable product functionality, as well as a high quality execution and finish.
Forming a Design Language for a Consistent Product Range
The launch of the Hydro Sonic Water Flosser followed Ordo’s successful Sonic+ electric toothbrush. It was also launched alongside the Sonic Lite toothbrush, which was another Nyker designed product.
After spending time understanding the brand history and aspirations, we worked closely with Ordo to craft a product that not only paired well with their existing offerings, but left room to grow an existing portfolio of products into the future.
Through this process we formed a design language for the shapes, colours, and finishes for all Ordo products. Additionally, we formalised wider brand ideals, which are now used to define required product features and speed up decision making on future designs.
