Hangframe

An aesthetic at home training and exercise tool for climbers.

Year

2020 - 2021

Brief

To create an at home training and exercise tool for climbers. The product needed to meet several key criteria to fulfil our client’s brief:

  • To work as a tool for building up finger strength at home.

  • To use a door frame to function, mitigating the need for permanent fixtures.

  • To have strong visual appeal and look good displayed in the home when not in use.

Outcome

We conceived and developed the full product to be production ready. Generated media and key business forecasting information to support discussions with investors and drive consumer interest.

Key Design Features

  • Fits to any size of doorframe for workouts without damaging walls.

  • Changeable grips to customise workouts with different materials, shapes, and depths.

  • Quick to pack away after a workout to take up less space.

  • Attractive aesthetics with a variety of colourways to suit a trendy lifestyle.

Collaborating to Make a Product that Climbers Want

To ensure Hangframe met the needs of climbers, we conducted a wide range of user research. These results informed the design process and made sure functionality was at the heart of all decision making. This included:

  • Understanding the user requirements and experiences of similar tools.

  • Competitor research and product analysis to establish pain points and areas to improve.

  • Gathering survey data on the size of at home door frames to ensure product would work on a range of door frames.

Marrying a Beautiful Aesthetic with Essential Functionality

We elevated the Hangframe offering through our innovative design. Balancing current trends with a timeless aesthetic that stayed true to the brand.

As always at Nyker, this process started early in the project and continued through development. We explored alternative ways to execute a solution through form, colour, materials, and finish.

The result was a product that had smooth, contemporary lines, subtle colouring, and a high-quality finish.

Validating Design Choices Through
Cost-Saving Computer Simulation

Hangframe saw us validating the strength of the assembly and individual components through virtual simulations (FEA) to quickly compare design solutions without building and destroying expensive prototypes.

This process minimised the risk that the final product would have fundamental flaws, and reduced costs during the design process.

Supporting Bootstrapped Marketing Through Strong Media

To aid Hangframe in their quest for investment and drive consumer interest we produced photo realistic computer-generated images and animations.  These are an invaluable for communicating final intentions and support the overall vision for the product.

Where prototypes or samples were made, we supplied photographs and videos to further exhibit the product to potential customers or investors.
